Madison Conservatory is now accepting piano students!
Piano faculty Evelyn Davis has 23 years of private and classroom teaching experience, and specializes in teaching beginning piano students. For students 5-7, she uses a combination of method books and fun games and exercises to help students enjoy their first steps into piano technique and music theory.
Her specialty is finding ways to engage and motivate young students by encouraging them to approach their music with freshness and energy, to fully understand what they’re working on, and to feel total freedom to create their own musical expression on or off the page. Evelyn’s diverse formal educational background allows her to pursue whatever musical direction students are interested in, while bringing academic substance and excellent technique to their practice.
Evelyn holds degrees in formal composition from Indiana University, and piano performance, and improvisation from Mills College, where she studied with Fred Frith, Roscoe Mitchell, and Zeena Parkins, to name a few. She obtained a certificate in jazz arranging and voice with the late great Phil Mattson at Southwestern Community College. She has had the privilege of touring the US and Europe with various groups since 2001.
