A Thankful Heart

Slide1

Let’s face it, we are all busy.  There are so many things to get done. Every day. Every week. Every year. Sometimes all we can do it put one foot in front of the other and trudge on. “Trudging on” is great and it works but sometimes we miss the small stuff.  We miss the important stuff.  It’s hard to stop, be present and thankful for the little moments our days can give us.  It can be hard to have a thankful heart when you’re knee deep in mothering {wiping butts and noses, cooking, cleaning}. When I feel life rushing by me and my eyes are fixed on my feet, I know.  I know I’m trudging. So I take a moment and write down ten things I love about my daughters.  I felt it again a couple weeks ago.  We were all sick and crabby and just getting through the day was a bit of an effort. Yep, trudging. So I stopped to write this. Right then I was present and I knew…my heart was very thankful again.

Bianca, I’m thankful for:

  1. The way you jump up and down with your head tilted to the left when you’re excited.
  2. The way you ask to help me in the kitchen and set the table.
  3. The way you make your sister laugh with a silly word or face {even when that means you’re both singing “have a poopy day” at the top of your lungs in the Target check out}.
  4. The way you run to ballet class with excited legs that are ready to dance.
  5. The way you tell me jokes that you never finish because you collapse in giggles before you finish.
  6. The way you draw pictures every day.
  7. The way you twirl till you’re dizzy.
  8. The way you clasp your sister’s had in the protective “big sister” way.
  9. The way you tell your life story to every single person you cross paths with {despite my sometimes embarrassment}.
  10. The way you still smile a huge smile {just for me} when I pick you up from school.
Iyla, I’m thankful for:
  1. The way you twist my hair around your tiny fingers {like you have done since you were an infant}
  2. The way you pout your big, puffy lips when you say goodbye to your sister.
  3. The way you show me your determined spirit every day {even when that means it takes 20 minutes to get socks on “by self”}
  4. The way you show me the table top pose you learned in yoga. every. single. day.
  5. The way you laugh at all of your sister’s jokes even though you have no idea what she meant.
  6. They way you see the world with wonder and amazement.
  7. The way you sing “itsy bitsy spider” with your little arms crossed tightly in front of you as you “wash spider out”.
  8.  The way you ask me to braid your hair {even though it never lasts long}.
  9. The way you start to dance whenever and wherever you hear music. any music.
  10. The way you are never too busy to cuddle and snuggle.
What things about your children are you thankful for? I’d love for you to share them!
