When you think of Wisconsin, you might also think of dairy. Because in Wisconsin, we’ve been dairy farming and obsessively making cheese since before we were even a state!
June is National Dairy Month
National Dairy Month is an annual tradition developed to celebrate the dairy industry and its contributions to the state and local communities. In Wisconsin, we celebrate National Dairy Month bigger than anywhere else because there is so much to celebrate in America’s Dairyland!
National Dairy Month is a great way to start the summer with nutrient-rich dairy foods. From calcium to potassium, dairy products like milk contain thirteen essential nutrients which may help to boost your immune system. Whether it’s protein to help build and repair the muscle tissue of active bodies or vitamin A and D for overall wellness, dairy products are a natural nutrient powerhouse. Those are just a few of the reasons that you should celebrate dairy not just in June, but all year long!
Dairy Sustainability
U.S. dairy farmers are committed to reducing their carbon footprint even further as part of the dairy community’s initiative to become carbon neutral or better by 2050.
A leader in the production of bio-energy, Wisconsin has more on-farm bio-energy systems than any other state. What’s a bio-energy system? It’s designed to convert manure into renewable energy, such as transportation fuels, heat and electricity, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Dairy’s Community Impact
Wisconsin dairy farmers have dedicated their lives to feeding communities across the state, country and globe. In fact, Wisconsin dairy farmers help fuel the state’s economy at the rate of more than $86,000 per minute.
Farming is a labor of love – a love of the land, cows, family and feeding the world and did you know that 95% of Wisconsin dairy farms are family-owned?!
The dairy you buy at the grocery store comes from hard-working farm families across the state. They help our schools create health and wellness programs that get students nutrition they need, and even help stock food pantries in their communities.
Animal Care
Wisconsin dairy farmers know when it comes to cows – proper health is essential. That’s why dairy farmers offer nutritious diets, comfortable living conditions and good medical care to help maintain a healthy, comfortable herd. Dairy cows have access to feed and fresh clean water 24 hours a day.
2022 Breakfast on the Farm Events in Wisconsin
Local dairy breakfasts and events have been an iconic part of Wisconsin culture during June Dairy Month for more than 50 years. Farm breakfasts are family-friendly events for all to enjoy. They offer opportunities for attendees to learn about local dairy farms and meet dedicated families that keep them running, enjoy delicious, home-cooked food made with fresh Wisconsin-made dairy products, and spend time with friends and neighbors.
These events are such a great time for kids of all ages (and adults, too!). There are many celebrations across the state this June. We have them listed in order by date.
