Set on a picturesque ten-acre farmette on Madison’s west side, Hickory Hill Academy (HHA) encompasses a great variety of indoor and outdoor learning environments for their Early Childhood and Elementary School students. Their new K-8th building opened its doors in August 2023. The campus is also home to alpacas, sheep and goats, and has a sports court, pond, forest and trails, gardens, music studios and more to expand their students’ learning beyond the classroom.
Each winter, HHA’s school campus transforms into a stunning holiday light display for their families, and for the Madison-area community. While the creation of each year’s display is time consuming (and sometimes very cold), the work is completed entirely by HHA’s internal staff and their family volunteer community. It is truly a labor of love for HHA’s school community to share the joy of this holiday display to the larger Madison-area community.
The holiday display is a direct reflection of HHA’s vision of “Cultivating Compassionate Leaders”. The school is rooted by an environment of compassion and stimulation, which builds the confidence in their students to embark on a journey of life-long learning. HHA also places a great focus on character building that allows their students to envision how they will serve their community beyond the expanse of the school campus. Each lit up tree on this welcoming campus provides a new opportunity to inspire creativity, while every hour spent wrapping branches builds a stronger sense of service for their entire school community (students and adults!). The lights are certainly a stunning display to view, while also serving as a beautiful opportunity for the community to learn and grow.
