The Madison Children’s Museum is likely the most thought of museum that comes to mind for those who have children in the Madison area. But did you know there are lots of great museums to explore? Including two more children’s museums right here in the area and others that are also family-friendly.

Madison Children’s Museum | 100 N Hamilton St, Madison, WI

A museum that contains exhibits on the arts, sciences, history, culture, health, and civic engagement. In addition, they have a ‘Wonderground‘ area or rooftop playground which is fun year-round!

Explore Children’s Museum | 1433 W Main St, Sun Prairie, WI

Explore Children’s Museum offers guided play, where the child directs the play in a setting that is carefully constructed with educational goals in mind.

Black Earth Children’s Museum | 1131 Mills St, Black Earth, WI

One of the only “small-town” children’s museums in the nation, the Black Earth Children’s Museum (BECM) is a unique and enriching place that inspires discovery, creativity and community!

Wisconsin Veterans Museum | 30 W Mifflin St, Madison, WI

The Wisconsin Veterans Museum, located on Capitol Square, is dedicated to telling the stories of the veterans of the state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Historical Museum | 30 N Carroll St, Madison, WI

The Wisconsin Historical Museum is located on the Capitol Square. The museum, which features information about the history of Wisconsin, is operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society.

University of Wisconsin Geology Museum | 1215 W Dayton St, Madison, WI

The UW–Madison Geology Museum is a geology and paleontology museum housed in Weeks Hall, in the southwest part of the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus. The museum’s main undertakings are exhibits, outreach to the public, and research.

  1. Hi I volunteer at the Driftless Historium museum in Mount Horeb, Wi.. It’s a treat to see especially the new exhibit on 3D photography that opened May 25th, 2023. it’s open 10-4 Friday Through Tuesday.
