Summer is coming to a close, and if you’re like us, you’re starting to think about getting your kids ready for back-to-school. While regular (twice yearly) dentist appointments are key to maintaining good oral health, a back-to-school checkup is particularly important, as summer brushing routines might have suffered due to a more relaxed summer vacation schedule.
A back-to-school checkup can help fight what the American Dental Association (ADA) calls the most common chronic disease in school-age children: cavities. In fact, according to the ADA, dental disease like cavities causes children to miss more than 51 million school hours every year. Catching and fighting cavity-causing decay at a back-to-school checkup can help keep your child healthy and happy, and prevent them from missing school for more serious dental issues. 
As parents of children ourselves, we understand that bringing your child to the dentist can be easier said than done for a number of reasons — busy summer schedules and your child’s fear of getting their teeth cleaned are usually among the most prevalent. Fortunately, at Madison Family Dental, we’ve done our best to address both of these challenges.
Extended Hours: Schedule an Early Morning or Evening Appointment We get it — between work, school, extracurriculars, and a never-ending to-do list, it can be tricky to fit in a trip to the dentist. That’s why we’ve extended our hours into the evening: we want to accommodate busy families like yours! Our Madison clinic has extended hours on Monday through Thursday (7am-7pm) with regular Friday hours, and our DeForest clinic has extended hours on Tuesday and Thursday (7am-7pm) with regular hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Kids Club: Going to the Dentist Has Never Been More Fun! This year, we’ve created a brand new program called the “Kids Club” that makes going to the dentist more fun for our younger patients (age 3-12). Each year (or every other checkup), Kids Club members are rewarded with fun prizes for going cavity-free, displaying good dental hygiene habits, or being brave during an appointment. Our cavity-free kids are also entered into a yearly drawing for a big grand prize! On top of that, our Kids Club has an educational element, as we share tips and tricks to help kids keep their teeth healthy.
