Dear Diary, I Have No Idea What I’m Doing

Dear Diary,

I have no Idea what I am doing. Today my 6 year old slammed the bathroom door as she screamed, “I am getting ready for school!” This was all of 2 seconds after she finished her rendition of Look What You Made me Do by Taylor Swift. No one told me that I was supposed to expect the attitude of a 16 year old in my 6 year old. Oh, and a few days ago she lost her top tooth. This gave her a temporary lisp. I may or may not have recorded her saying,, “Sally sells seashells by the seashore.” To top it off, today I gave her a Nutella sandwich,  fruit snacks, and Goldfish for lunch….but I guess it contradicts the fact that she ate 3 helpings of broccoli for dinner last night.

Now onto the almost 2-year old. Today she ate a fruit snack off the ground, I am fairly positive it was one from yesterday; at least I hope it was. I have also watched 6 episodes of Sesame street, she is now starting to sing along with some of the songs that are only on certain episodes. Last night she woke up like she usually does. I am a mom who loves her sleep, so I put her in my bed like I do every night. She still takes a bottle at night (she is 21 months old) and she still uses her pacifier on the regular. Also her favorite past time is jumping off the stairs, standing on her head, and doing somersaults. That’s OK though because we do story time and music class….right?

I say this all because I find it funny how everyone always seems to have an opinion on how to parent. How to be the perfect mom, all the things you should and shouldn’t do with your children. How to discipline, what to feed them, how much screen time they should have, and so on and so forth. It wasn’t until I became a mom I realized that no one actually has any idea what they are doing. We are all just faking it and hoping our children turn out to be decent human beings who are productive members of society. So to all of the parents out their questioning what they are doing and wondering if they are being a good parent, I am here to tell you. You are doing great and keep up the good work!
