Engineering for Kids of Dane County:: Hands-On Learning for your Budding Scientist!

If you are looking for activities for your budding scientist, we LOVE Engineering for Kids of Dane County. They offer classes throughout the year focused on STEM projects and also host summer camps that offer hands-on learning for ages 4-14. Would your kiddo love to design and build a rocket or a hot air balloon? Have they expressed interest in coding, video game design or 3D printing? At Engineering for Kids, your child will have the chance to explore STEM projects in an age-appropriate setting, and will learn from teachers that are passionate about inspiring the next generation of Engineers!

One of my favorite things about Engineering for Kids isn’t simply about building robots (although my 6 year old would be ALL about that) – it’s that they take ordinary, every day items and transform them into fun, hands-on learning projects. A plastic bottle can transform into a rocket and cardboard can make music – how cool is that?!

Engineering for Kids helps boys and girls look at the world through “Engineering Eyes”, to look at simple household objects and think, “What can I make with that?” My son loves to build and create and finding a place that will help foster that creativity and inspire him to invent is definitely a winner in my eyes!

In addition to their school year programming, Engineering for Kids offers a variety of summer camps that combine the mental stimulation of their classes with the physical stimulation of Rockin Jump! Engineering for Kids partners with Rockin Jump of Madison for summer camp so your child can bounce off some energy in between projects. Kids can code in the morning and then bounce around during lunch and breaks!

Here are a few examples of summer camps at Engineering for Kids:

Roblox (Learn how to build and code your very own Roblox game in a safe secure environment) – Roblox is the world’s largest interactive platform for play that allows kids to imagine, create, and play together in immersive 3D worlds
Minecraft Modding in Java: Learn how to make your own Minecraft mods with the power of code
3D Printing & Modeling – Sketch your ideas out on paper, turn your sketch into a 3D model in CAD programs on the computer, and then bring your idea to life by 3D printing your 3D model.
Game Design Camp: Treat your child to a summer of invention and check out Engineering for Kids!

Betsy is a mom to two sassy, spunky and spirited kiddos and wife to an adventurous, soccer-loving Chemist named Noah. She is originally from the Chicago suburbs but has bounced around the world with her husband before landing (hopefully permanently!) in Madison. Her first child, Jackson, was born in Germany during their two years living abroad. Betsy loves exploring new cities, donuts (any kind, anywhere) and being a stay at home mom. She is currently in school with plans to become an Occupational Therapist.
