Awhile back I watched the documentary Minimalism on Netflix. What the documentary is about is pretty self-explanatory, but for myself it was also very inspiring. Prior to watching it I wished our house was bigger so the kids had a larger basement to run around in. Though the survival of winters with kids in the Midwest is all together another topic, I was quickly reminded that my home and what my family has is plenty. In fact, we have way too much stuff. And I’m ready to get rid of some of our stuff.
So what I want to talk about today is bras. I have a feeling I’m not the only one who has a drawer full of bras that we don’t wear anymore. Be it reasons that they no longer fit, no longer need those nursing bras, no longer like underwires, I’m raising my hand to all of these. After doing some research I came across the following organizations that welcome your gently used bras:
Free the Girls – Free The Girls is an international non-profit organization devoted to coming alongside sex trafficking survivors with a path to true freedom. By donating your new or gently used bras, you’re giving economic opportunity that these women use to change their lives. Your gently used bras help survivors of human trafficking start their own businesses selling bras in their local second-hand clothing markets while they recover and build their new life. They accept both new and gently used bras of all sizes and styles, including sports bras, nursing bras, and camisoles. Bras For A Cause – Is an organization that supports Cancer survivors. They accept bras, lingerie, swimming suits and cancer survivor items. Please click HERE to find all the information you need on how to mail your items.
The Bra Recycling – This organization supports women and girls who are in desperate need of a bra. It’s their hope to decrease the number of bras entering our landfills, while providing substantial social benefits to women and girls in need. Click HERE for information on how to send them your bras.
Middleton Outreach Ministry – Not only is this a local organization, but they not only except bras, but clothing, food, etc. MOM’s mission is to instill hope in our community through progressive programs and partnerships to prevent homelessness and end hunger. I love simple ways of helping others while at the same time freeing up space in my underwear drawer. Really it is a win-win all around. Plus I feel these simple acts can be something we can teach and instill in our children. So here’s to spring cleaning and not only getting rid of bras we don’t use, but helping others at the same time!
