Madison Children’s Museum Announces Reopening Dates

Announcing: dates for reopening & new procedures for visits

(Madison, WI): Madison Children’s Museum has been closed since March 13, 2020, due to the pandemic. Now conditions are right for a cautious reopening. The museum will begin a phased reopening this June, with changes made to operations to protect the health of visitors and staff.

New hours of operation: MCM will open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Open for Members Only Beginning June 3; Opening to the Public June 24

From June 3 to June 20 admission will be available for museum members only. Members who visit during the soft opening will be asked to give feedback on new policies and procedures so that they can improve and provide the best possible experience for all families.

Open to the public June 24: They will welcome back visitors from the general public starting on June 24. Admissions will continue to be limited in accordance with, or going further than, public health guidelines.

Reduced capacity, reserved tickets: They will begin to welcome visitors back at capacities significantly below the thresholds recommended under current public health requirements. To manage capacity and facilitate distancing, visitors will be required to purchase (or in the case of museum members, reserve) tickets for a specific entry time via a new, online system, which will also allow for express, low-contact admission at the front desk. Once admitted, visitors can stay and play for the rest of the day.

Masks for all ages 3 and up: To protect the health and safety of all visitors and staff, everyone in the museum ages 3 and up will need to wear a face mask fully covering both mouth and nose.

Breaking Ground for the Wonderground

The museum broke ground on April 22nd on a major expansion project to be called the Wonderground – a new 10,000-square-foot exhibit for outdoor, active play behind the museum. The Wonderground will feature an awe-inspiring climbing sculpture as centerpiece to a new outdoor play space, the museum’s historic log cabin, and assorted smaller hands-on exhibits and adventures!
