No Shame in my Christmas Tree Game

As soon as Halloween is over, I get the itch to start decking my halls and walls. The holiday music comes on (who am I kidding – it’s 2020, we’ve been playing N’SYNC, Michael Buble and Mariah Carey for months now!). I am one of “those” people. I LOVE the holidays. A LOT. And I’m not afraid to admit it and I am not afraid to break some ‘arbitrary rules’ about when I should decorate. I have no shame in my holiday game. Plus this is 2020 – which knows no bounds when it comes to ‘rules’… am I right?!

I love Thanksgiving (I really, really do!). And from a purely practical standpoint, decorating early is a great way to get a head start on a busy holiday season, so that ON THANKSGIVING DAY you can be especially grateful that you’re already done decorating! We can sit back, relax and enjoy. I vehemently disagree with the following statement – our tree does NOT steal thunder from Thanksgiving – quite the opposite. Like I said – I’m not afraid to break this rule and luckily, my family fully supports me!:

“Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the earliest that you should set up a Christmas tree or put up Christmas-specific decorations,” according to an article by the Southern lifestyle brand. Why? “Because it is inconsiderate for your beautiful tree to steal the thunder from you big turkey dinner.”

Here are some other reasons that my Christmas Tree is up in early November!

It Makes Me Happy: I know the holidays can be (and are) stressful. And in 2020 in particular, we could all use a little extra holiday in heart and a little extra shuffle in our step. Putting my tree up early DOES THIS FOR ME!

It Brings Joy to My Kids: They get SO excited! They’ve already starting making lists for Santa and already circled EVERY SINGLE THING in the Amazon toy catalog (NOT HAPPENING btw). But they are also starting to think about what they want to buy for the Angel Tree and for their relatives and thinking of ways to brighten spirits. Plus, the holidays are best lived through the eyes of children and I love the memories that they are creating.

It’s A Lot of Work: I mean, I think we can all agree – that decorating is a good amount of work. So why not enjoy the fruits of your labor a little longer? Our tree is down New Years weekend, and this gives me a few extra weeks to revel in the beauty of the holidays.

I Love the Holidays: I am sure I already made this clear… so no need to elaborate further.

So with all that said, I already got myself a new, cozy blanket (by the way – this is the BEST, most coziest blanket ever… so much so that I bought several!) and slippers – and the matching Hanna jams are on their way (I mean, my kids are getting older – how many more years will they agree to be matching?… I am actually asking). I ordered up some candles and hot cocoa – my Apple Playlist is ready to rock and my tv is cued up with some holiday favorites (Elf, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Miracle on 34th Street… Hallmark – just typing this puts me in t he holiday spirit!). If there ever was a year that I was ready to celebrate – THIS IS IT.

When do you put your tree up?
