Looking for an exciting and educational way to spend spring break with your family? The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) is the perfect destination for hands-on learning and adventure. From March 24-27, MPM educators will bring the season to life with interactive activities focused on birds, butterflies, bees, and all things spring. Plus, don’t miss Creepy-Crawly Day on March 29, where you can explore the fascinating world of insects and other tiny creatures.

Spring Break Programming

Spring is a time of renewal, and what better way to celebrate than by exploring the wonders of nature? Throughout the museum, educators will host hands-on activities highlighting birds, butterflies, and bees, making it an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

Creepy-Crawly Day

With warmer weather comes the return of insects, and MPM is celebrating their importance with a day filled with interactive stations, live demonstrations, and exciting exhibits. Whether you love bugs or find them a little creepy, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for these tiny but mighty creatures.

Featured Activities:

Edible Insects – Discover how insects are a sustainable food source around the world and even try some for yourself. (Located on the Ground Floor across from the Café.)
Young Learners Storytime & Activities – Designed for children ages 3-8, these sessions include engaging stories and hands-on activities all about insects.

  • 11 a.m. – Junebug: No Life Too Small
  • 12:30 p.m. – Buzzing with Questions: The Inquisitive Mind of Charles Henry Turner
  • 2 p.m. – Junebug: No Life Too Small

Bug Patrol – Meet and even touch live insects like walking sticks and cockroaches. (Located on the First Floor in Bugs Alive.)
Heroes Around the Home – Explore the role of insects in our homes and how they help the environment in a fun, interactive experience. (First Floor, Puelicher Butterfly Wing Kids Zone.)
Butterfly Stop-By – Get up close with real butterfly specimens and learn why they are so much more than just beautiful. (First Floor in front of the Butterfly Vivarium.)
Moth Mayhem – View an incredible collection of moth specimens from Central and South America and discover their unique survival strategies. (First Floor near Sense of Wonder.)
Life Up Close – Step into the lab and use microscopes to explore the intricate details of insects. (First Floor in Rainforest.)
Partner Spotlight: Xerces Society – Meet experts from the Xerces Society and learn how you can help protect invertebrates and their habitats. (First Floor by Sense of Wonder.)
