(Madison, WI): Brand new this summer, Harbor Athletic Club in Middleton, WI is offering a summer camp. Swim Play Explore will offer a summer of outdoor fun, swimming and enrichment!
In line with the Harbor Mission of Train For Life, the Summer Camp program will keep your kids minds and bodies active all summer long. The Summer Camp program was developed by two leaders with a background in education and recreation.
Swim Play Explore
Each day at camp will have swimming, outdoor exploration and a STEM/educational activity. There will be weekly themes and field trips to line up with that theme. All of the Camp Leaders have degrees in Education, Early Childhood Development and Recreation and are Certified Youth Exercise Specialists.
Registrants can sign up by the week or for the entire summer (12 weeks)! Campers who choose all 12 weeks will receive a week free.

Each Week Offers Something Different…
Week 1: June 7-11, Super Heroes: Don’t forget your cape and tights for this “Super Hero” sized week of fun. Whether you are Batman or your very own hero, fun times will be had with activities including maze making, defeating villains, and cape designing.
Week 2: June 14-18, Animals: Fur, Feathers, fuzz, scales, animals big or small we are going to learn about them all. With interactive activities like habitat building, egg transporting, and creating prosthetic limbs for animals. We are going to learn about rare and obscure animals from all over the world. We will cap off our week with a field trip to the Henry vilas zoo.
Week 3: June 21-25, Water Explorers: During this week we will talk all about water! We will discuss watersheds and water ecosystems and why it is important to take care of our water while also being safe and having a blast in it! The week will include a variety of experiments and crafts all involving water. We will also have the opportunity to enjoy being in the water outside of Harbor’s pools with a trip to Devils Lake and the closer lakes and ponds that we have within walking distance. (Which is AMAZING!)
Week 4: June 28-July 2, America: During this week we honor and celebrate the stars and the stripes by focusing on learning about our great country. With fun projects, the classics yard games like ladder golf, corn hole, washers. But we will also challenge our campers to come up with their own yard games that can be played at home with family, friends and neighbors, and a tour of the Wisconsin Capitol building. This week is one not to be missed!
Week 5: July 5-9, Recycling: This week we think “green” as we focus on recycling/sustainability. We will examine our impact on the environment and learn what we can do to lessen our footprint. Activities will include art projects using only recycled/reclaimed material.
Week 6: July 12-16, Nature Explorers: For this week we are incredibly fortunate to be so close to the Pheasant Branch Conservancy which has a wide variety of nature and wildlife! We will take nature hikes where we will learn about different plants, bugs, and animals along with how to safely enjoy nature while considering the “Leave no trace” idea when being outside. We will also play games and do crafts that all explore the beauty of the great outdoors. Along with our time in Pheasant Branch, we will get to discover Governor Nelson State Park and the Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
Week 7: July 19-23, Camp Harbor: While each of these camp weeks will be spent outside as much as well can, Camp Harbor week will be one in which we explore more of the true summer camping experience! We will hike, swim, fish, set up hammocks, roast s’mores over the fire, and play all the classic yard games that you bring to the campsite!
Week 8: July 26-30, Summer Olympics: This week’s theme is so jammed packed full of fun, spirit, and competition that we decided to do it for two weeks! Harbor Olympic weeks will get our campers competitive juices flowing as we will have olympics style competitions for both teams and individuals. Who will be left standing at the top of the podium?
Week 9: August 2-6 Summer Olympics: This week’s theme is so jammed packed full of fun, spirit, and competition that we decided to do it for two weeks! Week 10: August 9-13, Space: Get ready for lift off, as this week is going to be out of this world. Space week will inspire and amaze as we learn about space, and do space themed projects including making planets, constellations, and to cap off a great week will be taking a trip to the UW planetarium.
Week 11: August 16-20, Caves: This week our focus is on caves. We will learn about rock above and below the surface. We will make our own crystals, design and make our own caves, and take a trip to see the Caves of the Mounds in Blue Mound, WI.
Week 12 August 23-27, Carnival: Our summer program comes to an end with Harbor Carnival Week! During this week we will learn about the history of Brazil’s World famous Carnival. During this week campers will design and build their own carnival games that will be enjoyed by all at the end of the week family carnival.
Covid Protocols
Our priority is offering a SAFE space for your kids to enjoy their camp experience. Upon arrival at camp each day, we will do a quick touchless temperature check and kids will be asked to sanitize their hands. We wash hands and sanitize throughout the day. Masks will be required at camp whether we are indoors or outdoors. We are thankful to have a large campus at Harbor with plenty of space to ensure social distancing for our campers. Snacks and lunch will be enjoyed outdoors with each camper in a designated spot. Our camp capacity is 25 campers.
