Halloween

Have you heard of the Teal Pumpkin Project?

If not, have no fear I can fill you in. This campaign launched in 2014 by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE). The teal pumpkin shows your house is participating in offering non-food treats. Don’t worry if you still want to have candy you can do both, just have separate bowls and ensure you offer both to all who trick or treat.

This is a great way for all children to enjoy the Halloween spirit! This will also prevent my house from having too many chocolate temptations around that I will unfortunately consume. Bonus – if you stock up on these non-food treats they can be used for the next season if you have left overs… not the same case with the candy.

Ideas for Non-Food Treats (I found luck at the dollar store and Target)

  • Halloween tattoos
  • Glow Sticks, necklaces, bracelets
  • Halloween stickers
  • Spider rings
  • Halloween erasers
  • Mini packs of crayons or markers
  • Pens/Pencils
  • Mini notepads
  • Bubbles
  • Vampire fangs
  • Small packs of playdoh
  • Mini games- yoyos, jacks, playing cards
  • Reusable plastic cups
  • Books

Who else is joining the Teal Pumpkin Project this year? What have you found to pass out? Post your pictures to #tealpumpkinproject to share.

Madison Family
Madison is such a cool city. We love it around here. We live here too and our vision is to create a platform where real parents share real stories and we can all learn from one another. You will get to know real moms doing life right here in our neighborhoods and find information on a wealth of topics – local summer camps, preschools, swim lessons, shops and boutiques, events and experiences as so much more.
