Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin is Hosting Sensory-Friendly Vaccine Clinic

The Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin is excited to be offering their first Sensory-Friendly Vaccine Clinic as part of their Vaccine Education Initiative.

This clinic will be held on October 27th from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Madison Children’s Museum

The flu vaccine and other routine vaccinations will be available to participants (availability of the updated Covid vaccine is TBD). Vaccines can be given to any guests ages 5 and up. Each person who wants to receive a vaccine will register individually for a ten-minute session (vaccinators can take families as a group at the museum, but they must register separately). If you have insurance, the registration form will ask for that information, but the vaccines are FREE to everyone (insured and uninsured, children and adults).

All vaccinators will receive training from the Autism Society staff on how to be accommodating to those with Autism and other sensory needs. Tool kits with visual supports, sensory supports, and fidget toys are available for participants as well, free of charge. This sensory-friendly vaccine model has a universal design and can be beneficial to any individuals who have needle anxiety or fear of medical procedures due to negative experiences in their past. The registration form will ask if the participant would like access to one of these tool kits, and it also has a comment section where we invite those that are registering to share with us any useful tips on ways we can make the process more relaxing for the individual. Participants can also share any past negative experiences so our vaccinators can ensure those things do not happen again.

This clinic is not being exclusively offered to those with different sensory needs- we invite the entire family to register for their vaccines!

Madison Children’s Museum’s sensory-friendly Halloween Party

We are so excited to be providing this clinic at the Madison Children’s Museum to remove the anxiety of going to a medical provider, which we know many individuals have. To make the experience even more exciting, families are invited to stay and participate in the Madison Children’s Museum’s sensory-friendly Halloween Party!

This event will be happening at the same time as the Vaccine Clinic, so families can get their vaccinations and spend the evening enjoying the Halloween activities! Participants can come in costume and explore the Children’s Museum that evening from 4:30 to 7:00.  There will be trick-or-treat stations around the museum so kids can practice trick or treating in a friendly environment. There will also be fun photo opportunities around the museum and a Halloween craft for participants to do as well! Admission for this event is free.

To register for the Halloween Party and/or make appointments for the Vaccine Clinic, participants can head to the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin’s website.

Madison Family
Madison is such a cool city. We love it around here. We live here too and our vision is to create a platform where real parents share real stories and we can all learn from one another. You will get to know real moms doing life right here in our neighborhoods and find information on a wealth of topics – local summer camps, preschools, swim lessons, shops and boutiques, events and experiences as so much more.
