Jenny is a Madison transplant from Winona, MN, with imaginative and talkative twin boys Cameron and Carson, born November 2010, and one very old kitten Arabella, born March 2003, and one very young kitten JoJo, born May 2018. Her husband is a Madison native and suckered her in to staying. She graduated in 2001 from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a bachelor's degree in English Literature, currently working in financial services full-time and writing in her scant spare time when inspiration strikes. She tentatively blogs, with brutal honesty, on whippedcreamandkittens.com and frequently Instagrams. Besides whipped cream and kittens, she loves reading, writing, coffee, wine, cooking, traveling, movies, and spending time with family and close friends. Jenny is thrilled to be on the Madison Moms Blog team and happy to share her wacky and sarcastic tales of Madison momhood.

Are We Really So Different?

Parents, like their children, come in all sizes and shapes. You pack your child's lunches for school with bento boxes and star-shaped cucumber sandwiches, notes of love and encouragement attached. I leave my children...

Teaching Them Not to Need Us

With every passing year, the kids are becoming less kid-like and more self-sufficient. When they were babies and then toddlers, developments happened seemingly lightning-fast and without much verbal instruction. Our main concern was survival......

I Feel Like A Fraud

I feel like a fraud, and I have all my life. Being an Asian-American adoptee, I don't have Asian roots to speak of. I don't have any family medical history, and every time I...

A Decade* of Picky Eaters

*Okay, that's an exaggeration. They're 10 right now and have only been "picky" for about eight years. But I thought the title was catchier with the truth inflated a little bit, and honestly, it...

Lessons from a Pandemic

We're closing in on a year since the pandemic started, and now Winter has started its long and dark descent. I've been in a funk, to put it lightly, for weeks now. Don't believe...

OK, But When Will This Get Better?

This is a rhetorical question... I don't think anyone can pinpoint when we're going to start an uphill swing. We're over six months into this pandemic now. Six months of living with an extra layer...

The Benefits of Boredom

"Mom, I'm bored." "There's nothing to do." "I don't know what to do." What do you do or say when you hear this? Especially these days? I'm a firm believer in letting (my) kids be bored. Hang...

I’m Fine.

So often we utter this response when asked how we are. A simple, friendly "How are you?" is well-meaning. I appreciate someone asking me, someone wanting to know about my well-being. So the typical...

If I Can Survive Disneyland, Anyone Can

I'm going to start off by saying, I am an impatient introvert. In my childhood, I had never been to an amusement park larger than the Six Flags in Shakopee, MN (RIP, Prince). My...

I Need to Calm Down

I am a Type-A-ish person and easily irritated. When something isn't how I want it or think it should be, I can go a wee bit ballistic. There are times this annoying personality trait...

Simple Truths I Have Learned By 40

As I stare down the barrel of the gun that is turning 40 years old, here are some pearls of wisdom I have managed to gather and hold on to along the way. I...
