Exciting News from The Madison Midwives

New sign 2015From the moment you find out your pregnant, carefully choosing your team of care providers is one of the most important decisions you will be faced. Fortunately in the Madison area we have some great options – one of which is the team at Physicians for Women and The Madison Midwives! Several Madison Moms Blog team members are patients at Physicians for Women – (you can read one team members testimonial here).

In 2014, The Madison Midwives was created and joined forces with Physicians for Women. And effective immediately, they are expanding their team to meet the evolving needs of patients in the Madison area. Allison Scholl, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) will be offering patient care alongside Christine Kern Steffen, CNM!

“Allison is a certified nurse midwife who shares a level of care that complements our current practice, while offering us new opportunities to reach an underserved local Spanish speaking population” said Kern Steffen.  “She has worked in Labor and Delivery at UnityPoint Health-Meriter and will work closely with myself and the clinicians of Physicians for Women, while delivering her own patients at UnityPoint Health-Meriter in the hospital setting.”

Allison Scholl’s journey to midwifery began when she attended her first birth in rural Guatemala in 2009. After being captivated by the beauty and power of birth she decided to explore the work of nurse-midwives in the US and decided to pursue midwifery and to be an advocate for physiologic birth and to partner with women in health care decision marking.

As The Madison Midwives has grown, they are able to serve more women even in circumstances that are considered high risk. They work collaboratively with the OBGYN’s at Physicians for Women to manage patient care and to offer a midwife to women who might not have otherwise been able to use that type of care. Patients who work with The Madison Midwives benefit from working closely with Physicians for Women; specifically in situations where a labor does not go as planned, requiring consultative services of on call doctors Melius, Schurr and Cardwell to be immediately available!

The new addition of Allison Scholl to the midwives will allow them to practice opportunities to serve more women and to open doors to a population of Spanish speaking patients searching for this level of care.
