My Favorite Things Party

Last week I had a ‘Favorite Things’ party at my house for some of my girlfriends. This type of party is fairly new and such a fun way to get together with friends and have a ‘Girls Night In’! I asked everyone at my party if they had ever been to a ‘Favorite Things’ party before and no one had! So here’s a brief overview of how it works.

Each person brings 3 items (these items are the same) with a $10-$15 limit per item. If you for instance absolutely love lip gloss, you may want to bring 3 lip glosses. They could be 3 shades, but they will all be lip gloss. Another person may love scarves, so she will wrap up 3 scarves, could be all identical or could be 3 different patterns. Don’t tell each other what you’ve brought… it makes it more fun! And if you are crafty, you could even make something… (I am NOT crafty!) so I ended up purchasing my items.
Here are the items that were brought to my party:

  • Lululemon headbands (3 different colors)
  • Sephora lipgloss (3 different shades)
  • Bamboo/glass water bottles from Target
  • Knit eternity scarves (3 different colors)
  • $15 Starbucks giftcards and reusable coffee cup
  • Penzey’s spices for making brownies
  • Scarves from Charming Charlie (3 different patterns)
  • Pink Papaya ‘Gypsy’ body lotion
  • Bath & Body Works Stress Relief Pillow Spray
  • Homemade sugar scrubs (3 different fragrances)

So when the guests arrived they displayed their items on the ‘gift’ table and put their name on 3 slips of paper and dropped the slips in a bucket.

We started off the party by mingling with friends and enjoying some food from Yummy Sprout (which also happens to be one of my ‘favorite’ things!) Yummy Sprout provided Rosemary Sweet Potato Fries w/ spicy vegan aioli, Mini Poppy Seed Pea Sliders and a Baked Brie Plate: baked brie, fruit, veggies and flackers. YUM! Everyone absolutely loved the food and the best part is that it was all healthy enough to enjoy guilt-free! If you’ve never been to Craig’s Cake Shop in Verona, I highly, highly recommend that you make your way over there! Whether for a cake for a party or just because you are craving something sweet! Craig’s provided for us their cake parfaits and a mini-cake. It was my first time trying a cake parfait and it was SO good! Basically, it’s like a push-pop only with layers of scrumptious cake. We all know how good cupcakes are, so if you love cupcakes you will absolutely love Craig’s Cake Parfaits (another of my new favorite things!) The mini-cakes serve 10 and are so pretty and yummy for any party… or to fulfill your sweet tooth! Find them on Facebook to check out some of their amazing cakes!

After we were done digging in to the food we made our way to the gift table. We took turns going around and telling what our item was that we brought and why it’s our ‘favorite thing’. I went first and told about why I love Pink Papaya lotion and I drew 3 names from the bucket. Those were the 3 who got my lotion. Each person will end up leaving the party with 3 fun, new items from their friends. It’s as simple and as fun as that! I can’t think of a better excuse to have a night in with the girls… as if you need an excuse!

All of the decorations were done by Cuter Than Words – a locally owned Etsy shop specializing in burlap banners and party decor. For the party she made the ‘Favorite Things’ burlap banner, the water bottle labels, straws in the mason jar, food tent labels, burlap table runners, brown bags with the graphics attached, framed 5×7’s with Favorite Things graphics and cake parfait toppers. If you are ever hosting a party you will want to be sure to check out Cuter Than Words. She can do anything from custom designs, colors, fonts… you name it! She makes everything look extra pretty and we also love that she is a local mom! Click here for the listing for ‘Favorite Things’ decor for your party! And be sure to check out her Facebook page.

  1. Oh my goodness what an amazing idea! I have never heard of this kind of party either. I love how personal it is, but you don’t need to be best friends with everyone to attend the party. Its a great way to celebrate with new and old friends alike. Well done!!
