MERITER CHAMPIONS INFANT FEEDING SUPPORT DURING WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK

Offering Support, Education, and Resources for Every Feeding Journey

(MADISON, WI): As Wisconsin’s busiest birthing center, UnityPoint Health – Meriter is proud to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2025 by reaffirming our commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based support for families throughout their infant feeding journey.

Observed globally each year from August 1–7, World Breastfeeding Week is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) to promote awareness around infant nutrition and parent-infant wellness. This year’s theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,” highlights the importance of long-term, community-based resources that empower parents and foster lasting support for breastfeeding.

At Meriter, they recognize that every family’s feeding journey is unique. Whether families choose to breastfeed, pump, formula-feed, or use donor milk, their goal is to provide knowledge, resources, and encouragement to support healthy babies and thriving families.

Their services include access to highly trained lactation consultants, a breast milk bank for families in need, and a variety of educational opportunities to guide families through each stage of feeding.

Educational classes available include:

  • Birth, Breastfeeding and Baby Essentials – This four-class series helps expectant parents prepare for labor, birth, breastfeeding, and newborn care. The first two sessions focus on birth, while the latter two explore feeding and infant essentials.

  • Basics of Breastfeeding – Learn how the body makes milk, how to support milk supply, how to help your baby latch for chestfeeding, and how to best prepare for a successful breastfeeding experience.

  • Breastfeeding: Home, Pump and Work – This class covers how to provide milk for your baby after returning home and as you prepare to resume work, school, or other activities. Topics include how to assemble and clean a pump, when to begin pumping, and safe breastmilk storage guidelines.

All classes are led by their experienced Family Health Education staff and lactation consultants. During World Breastfeeding Week, UnityPoint Health – Meriter encourages families to explore these resources and connect with others in a welcoming, inclusive environment—no matter how they choose to feed their baby!
