Why the Demo Drive is Important

One of the many tools in a Mom’s toolkit is the right vehicle! As the Mom of 3, including a set of twins, I understand how much you depend on your vehicle.

My name is Jill Warren and I am a Sales and Leasing Consultant at Zimbrick Honda. I’ve spent the last 18 years of my career helping families – just like yours – find the right vehicle. This is my second post that walks you through the road map to finding the perfect car! If you didn’t get a chance to read my first installment – click here.

Just as a reminder – here is the road map:

  1. Meet & Greet
  2. Interview
  3. Select a Vehicle
  4. Walkaround
  5. Demo Drive – otherwise known as a test drive
  6. Service Walk
  7. Range your trade-in
  8. Appraisal of your trade-in
  9. Write up the Contract
  10. Financing
  11. Delivery
  12. Follow up

Let’s focus on Step #3!

Select a Vehicle

Based on your answers to all of the interview questions in step 2, I can select a vehicle or vehicles that will meet your needs. Because I am a Honda product expert, I know all the ins and outs of each Honda vehicle. I use this knowledge to show you only the vehicles that meet ALL of your needs. Why would you want to look at anything that didn’t?

Walkaround

I am now going to “wow” with all my product knowledge… just kidding! This isn’t a data dump. Instead I will show you the key features of the vehicle and how they benefit YOU. For instance, if you told me that you need three child car seats, we’ll spend some time looking at the LATCH system that you’ll use to install the car seat. We won’t spend time talking about the size of the wheels. But as a Mom, I am sure you’ll want to know about safety so we will talk about airbags, and back up cameras, anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Demo Drive

Now that you’ve seen how the vehicle or vehicles fits your needs, it’s time to drive so make sure you bring your driver’s license. This is such an important step. You can do a lot of research on the web, but until you sit in the seat yourself you can’t know how it fits YOU. How does the seat feel – especially in the lower lumbar area? Are there any obstructions to your sight lines? This is different for everyone depending on your height. What about arm rests, the steering wheel and the mirrors? Let’s get this all adjusted for the way you drive.

As your Sherpa, I am going to make sure you put the vehicle through its paces. You’ll drive and I’ll navigate. I want to make sure you drive on the beltline and see how it merges into traffic. We will drive on city streets so you can get a better feel for the sight lines and the braking. And we’ll drive some bumpy roads, too. We’ll park and back out of a parking space, we’ll parallel park—but only if you want to. And depending on the season, I might be able to find an unplowed parking lot that will let you test antilock brakes.

I encourage you to bring all of the “stuff” you need on a daily basis with you.  Let’s install the car seats, and put strollers in the back.  Can you reach the hatch back when it’s open? If you’re concerned about the vehicle fitting in your garage – let’s drive to your house and see if it fits.

At the end of the demo drive you should be able to answer the question – “Does this vehicle fit all of my needs?” If the answer is yes, we can go ahead and make the arithmetic work. Because the numbers are just numbers. If the car doesn’t fit your needs we need to find another vehicle that will.

Service Walk

You might be thinking – why are you showing me service now?  Well the reason is, every vehicle needs some maintenance, and this is the department that keeps your vehicles on the road and safe for everyone inside of it. This is your pit crew.

I want you to see our children’s play area, and the waiting area with free Wi-Fi. It’s clean and comfortable and our technicians specialize in Honda’s. In fact, we have more Master Technicians than anyone in the country. Remember the mission of Zimbrick — “To help people with their automotive needs.”  Service is a very important part of meeting your automotive needs!

In this post I’ve walked you thru steps 3 thru 6.  In 2 weeks, I’ll post the next installment… there will be four in all.

Whenever you’re ready to find the vehicle that’s a perfect fit for your family, I am here to help. You can email me at [email protected] or give me a call at (608) 230-0496.
