Being creative and helping people is what I was called to do! I look back on my career as a cosmetologist and how I helped clients feel good about their hair. Life changed when I got married and moved 14 hours away from home and it took an even bigger turn when our first daughter was born with Spina Bifida. We found a nurse to provide in-home care so I could continue to work. Just after her first birthday, we decided it would be best for our family if I stayed home. Two years later, we moved to Madison. With everything going on in our family, I found it hard to meet other moms and mostly stayed at home. I thought about going back to work, but with a daughter with special needs and a 1-year-old, working outside the home wasn’t an option. Don’t get me wrong, I love being at home with our daughters, and there is plenty to do. I cook- sometimes. I clean- eventually. I change diapers- all the time. But I lost my creative drive. When Alisa and I first met, she mentioned wanting to start Madison Moms Blog. She was very motivated and was looking for the right partner. Although I didn’t give it much thought at first, after reflecting on how hard it had been for me to find a place for myself in Madison, I became excited about connecting moms with our community and each other. Being a mom is hard work! It can be messy and amazing and lonely and incredible- and sometimes it’s just flat out gross! I just want to let you know that- whatever you’re going through- YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
