Organized Chaos

Do you have a list of items you need for your kiddos this fall and winter but don’t want to spend a lot of money?  Well, the Madison Area Mothers of Multiples’ organization has their fall and winter resale coming up!  Their semi-annual sale will occur Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm for the public at Keva Sports Center in Middleton.  If you are pregnant or are a member of the organization, you can get in earlier.  Just to clarify, you DO NOT have to be a mother of multiples to attend, anyone is welcome!  For specific information, please visit their website.

As a mother of multiples, I heard about this sale when I was pregnant and have gone three times.  I will be the first to admit that it is a little hectic, but it is extremely well organized and has anything you need.  And the best part?  It’s all in one place!  I have never been a “Black Friday” shopper, but I joke with my husband that this sale is the “Black Friday” of resale.  My experiences shopping at the sale have been worth the crowds.  If you decide to check it out I will leave you with some tips from an “experienced” shopper…

  1. Timing.  There are two schools of thought regarding when to get there and it may depend on how much time you have.  Doors open for the public at 10:00 am.  Some of you may want to get there early, grab a coffee on your way, and try to get in line before the crowds.  Others of you (a friend of mine recommended this) may just want to avoid the line and show up right at 10 as they are letting people in.  If do you decide to go early, don’t be surprised to see a line of people already waiting at 9:00 am.
  2. Have a plan!  I would recommend having a list or at least an idea of what you are looking for.  This sale will have anything you need for the fall or winter, so plan ahead.  (You will find me looking for Halloween costumes!) It is a little chaotic once you are in there, and browsing should be done after you cross off your top priority items.
  3. Bring cash.  It is $2 to get in and you can only purchase your items with cash, so stop at the bank on the way.
  4. Bring a clear bag or a laundry basket.  All other bags to carry your items are prohibited.
  5. Leave your kiddos at home.  Children are not allowed unless they are newborns or small babies that can be carried in a front or back carrier.  No strollers.
  6. Shop with a friend.  It is more fun to shop with someone.  Plus they can stand in line with you and keep an eye out for the stuff you need.

If I haven’t convinced you to check out the MAMOMs resale yet, here are what some local moms have to say about their experiences …

“The sale is definitely worth the $2 and the long check out line. I like to show up just as they’re letting everyone in and enjoy shopping for sales without the kids!”  – Kirstie (Madison, WI)

“Even as a mom of non-multiples I always found quality clothes at reasonable prices and it made me feel good to be re-using clothes that were probably worn for less than 6 months.”  – Tina (Oregon, WI)

“The MAMOM’s sale = Awesome! For years I bought my son’s entire winter wardrobe for less than $100 including boots and a coat!”  -Beth (Madison, WI)
