(Blue Mounds, WI): This winter, Cave of the Mounds transforms into a glowing underground wonderland during its annual Cave of Lights festival. From Thanksgiving through January 31, visitors can experience the famous cave in a whole new way—illuminated with twinkling lights and festive decor that create a one-of-a-kind holiday adventure.

The Cave of Lights festival is designed to bring a touch of cheer to everyone, whether you’re celebrating Bodhi, Chanukah, Christmas, Yule, Kwanzaa, or simply the beauty of the season. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be surrounded by a colorful and creative mix of lights both above and below ground—making it the perfect backdrop for family outings, date nights, and winter photo ops.
The magic isn’t limited to nighttime. Because the cave’s glow shines no matter the hour, guests can visit anytime during open hours and still enjoy the full holiday display.
Extended Evening Hours
For those who want to see the lights sparkle after dark, select dates in December and January feature extended hours. On these days, the attraction will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the last cave tour at 6:00 p.m.—a great option for families looking to visit after school or work.

January Extended Days:
Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd, Saturday 10th, Friday 16th, Saturday 17th, Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th, Friday 30th, and Saturday 31st
No special tickets are required—every tour during this time includes the Cave of Lights experience.

Cave of the Mounds is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day). Tours begin at 10 a.m., with the last tour entering at 4 p.m.
